3rd September 2006  Barnoldswick Town 4 - 3 Trawden Celtic
Ex Brierfield Celtic forward Joe Murphy came back to haunt Trawden Celtic with a hat-trick in a game that swung both ways at Victoria Park.

Murphy got his first after just five minutes when a high ball came into Celtic's box. He out jumped both defender and keeper to head into an empty net. Town kept the pressure on and came close to adding to the score on a couple of occasions, but some wayward finishing let them down.
Trawden gradually came back into the game and equalised after 30 minutes through captain Callum Whitfield. A great through ball by Calvin Anslow found James Parker, who headed it perfectly for Callum to finish with a great shot. Two minutes later, Trawden took the lead. Rob Lawless, who ran tirelessly all day, was brought down in the box and Callum Whitfield converted the resulting penalty.
It didn’t take long for Town to be on level terms, Joe Murphy easily heading his second due to some shoddy Celtic defending.

The next five minutes proved to be the most crucial of the game. Trawden started to get their act together and produced at least three clear cut chances, but the Town keeper pulled off some tremendous saves to keep the score line level.

Half-time: Town 2 - 2 Celtic
The second half started scrappily, but Barnoldswick gradually became the stronger side and their dominance paid off with Murphy completing his hat-trick after bursting through the Celtic defence and giving Ben Gorman no chance with a shot into the roof of the net. Ben was in action again, making a couple of great saves to keep Trawden in the match.
Town made it 4-2 when two strikers, who looked suspiciously offside, raced clear and gave Ben no chance.
Celtic had it all to do now, and to their credit, pulled one back with ten minutes to go. James Parker latching on to a through ball and chipping the keeper with the outside of his left foot.
Despite their efforts, Trawden couldn’t muster an equaliser with Town’s well drilled defence coping with everything that was thrown at them.

Barnoldswick deserved to win in the end, but credit to both sides for a great game.
