17th September 2006 Trawden Celtic 9 - 3 Brunlea Juniors
Celtic recovered from a shaky start to record a 9-3 victory with man-of-the-match Rob Lawless hitting six!
Simon Lewis started in goal for the first time this season with Ben Gorman slotting into midfield and after only five minutes Simon was picking the ball out of the net as he was beaten on the near post by the Brunlea striker.
Rob Lawless ran on to a great through ball to hammer a great equaliser four minutes later. Brunlea looked dangerous every time they attacked, with their No. 9 creating havoc in the Trawden defence.
It was no surprise when Brunlea made it 2-1 in the 20th minute. A long range effort squirming through ‘Raul’s’ hands and over the line.
After that, Celtic started to get their game together and scored two goals in quick succession. Firstly Rob Lawless ran in from the byline and although the Brunlea keeper got his hands to the ball, he only helped it into the net. Then a great run and cross by James Redford found James Parker who hit the back of the net with a superb header.
The rest of the half was fairly even, but it was Celtic who led at the break.
Half-time: Celtic 3 - 2 Brunlea
Trawden changed things slightly, with Rob Lawless playing a little deeper to drag the Brunlea defence out. And it worked a treat.
Five minutes into the second half came the goal of the game. Brunlea gave away a foul on the edge of the box and from the resulting free-kick, Thomas Farthing curled a beauty into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.
Brunlea hit straight back though with their No .9 getting the better of Chris Dodd and slotting the ball home.
On 60 minutes, James Parker made it 5-3 when he slotted home his second goal of the game from a tight angle. To their credit, Brunlea never gave up, and Simon Lewis in the Celtic goal produced two great saves and some timely interceptions to keep them out.
But in the last 20 minutes, Brunlea tired and Rob Lawless took advantage with four more goals, the last of these being his best.
Rob ran through the midfield and laid the ball off to Richard Dixon who returned it with a great pass. Rob took one touch and hammered the ball into the top corner to make the final score 9-3.
A bit harsh on Brunlea but a thoroughly deserved win for Celtic.
