A much improved Brunlea Juniors dug deep to frustrate Celtic and gain a draw.
Trawden Celtic had to settle for a point despite having most of the play against a Brunlea side bolstered by some new signings.
Celtic took the lead on 10 minutes with a left foot shot by leading scorer Rob Lawless. The keeper got a hand to the ball but could not prevent it from going into the net.
Despite the pressure, Trawden could not add to their only goal, and in the 23rd minute, Brunlea equalised against the run of play.
They were awarded a free-kick some 25 yards out and the powerful attempt seemed to hit Trawden ‘keeper Simon Lewis on his chest and bounce upwards. The Brunlea striker was first to the ball as the Celtic defence stood and watched and prodded it over the line.
Half-time: Brunlea 1 - 1 Celtic
The second half was one way traffic, but some great defending by Brunlea, coupled with some wayward finishing by Trawden, meant the score remained at 1-1. Celtic had to remain on their toes in defence as Brunlea threatened once or twice, but the deadlock could not be broken by either side and they shared the points.
